Introduction to the City of Riga Latvia
and the
Country of Latvia

“TheCeļotājs” welcomes you and invites you to visit the City of Riga Latvia as well as the country of Latvia. The City of Riga Latvia as well as the country of Latvia are not only rich in history, historical structures, but also has a very long cultural history.

The City of Riga Latvia is not only a city of history that is over 800 years old not only in buildings, streets, but also in its very own cultural history.  Its people and its love for the county cannot only be seen, but one can feel it. While you are in Riga and have a chance to visit one of their many festivals or markets places, take the time to visit the festivals or markets and watch the folk dancers and story behind the celebration of the festival that is being put on by different dance groups performing the traditional folk dances of the festival being celebrated. One can see that the performers, which are made up of different age groups, are really putting their hearts in to it.

In Old Riga Centre City, one will not only see old buildings that date back to the 13th and 16th century, Churches dating back to the 13th century, Museums of the past history as well as the 20th century events, Memorials, Monuments, Statues, but also cobblestone and paving brick streets. Some of the streets are only wide enough for one vehicle to drive down it and some are only wide enough to just walk down, some sidewalks are only two to three feet wide that are either of cobblestone or paving brick. We will also see some warehouses that date back to the 1700. Some stand empty while others have been remodeled and turned into businesses.   

“TheCeļotājs” well take you to other sections of the City of Riga where we will see other historical buildings, churches, cathedrals and cemeteries that date back to the 1700’s. We will also visit memorials and monuments dedicated to the events of 1917 and 1941. We will also visit the parks located through out City Centre where we will see well maintained and kept flower gardens. The most famous and visited park is Bastejkalns park, which has many well kept and beautiful flower gardens. While visiting Bastejkalns park we will also see the Monument of Freedom, which has a history of its own, located on Brīvības bulvāris and in the middle of Bastejkalns park. The Monument of Freedom is the countries national monument and the center of many national celebrations.

Not to out do oneself, “TheCeļotājs” will take you to some of the famous restaurants located in Riga. TGI Friday’s located at at Kaļķu iela 6. TGI Friday’s is located at the corner of Kaļķu iela and Skārņu iela. Another one is LIDO Recreation Centre and Restaurant located at Krasta iela 76. Then you have Rozengrals Medieval Restaurant located at Rozen iela 1. Rozengrals Medieval Restaurant is located at the corner of Rozen iela 1 and Krāmu iela. Then you have the Black Monk located at the intersection of Kalēju iela and Teātra iela.

If you feel the need to go shopping then one can visit one of three local Shopping Malls located along 13 Janvāra iela and Marijas iela were you will find many different shops catering to what ever your needs maybe. The other shopping mall is Galerija Centrs located at Audeju iela 16. Or you can visit Riga Central Market located south of Old Riga Centre City and located along Centrāltirgus. Here you can find shops catering from everything from clothes to foods of all kinds or anything you can think of every venue specializes on a particular product while the outside stalls sell everything from clothing to DVDs. Riga Central Market is the largest market in Riga and just one of many markets located through out the city.
